Start with the printed image size
Enter the physical dimensions you want for the image, excluding borders. These are not the file’s pixel dimensions. The photo resolution calculator lets you check the relationship between pixels and print size separately.
Add each border once
The paper width adds the left border, image and right border. The height adds the top border, image and bottom border. Unequal borders move the image within the sheet; they do not crop it or change its proportions.
Check the printing options
The calculated size may not be a standard size offered for sale. Request a print that preserves the image size and your chosen borders. An automatic fill or fit option may change the result; check the preview before ordering.
Paper width = left border + image width + right border. Paper height = top border + image height + bottom border. White area = paper area − image area.
30 × 20 cm image with a 4 cm bottom border
A 30 × 20 cm image with 2 cm on the left, right and top, then 4 cm at the bottom, needs 34 × 26 cm paper. Its top-left corner is 2 cm from the left and top edges. The image keeps its 30 × 20 cm dimensions.
Details to check
- Distinguish the image size from the paper size.
- Check all four borders in the preview.
- Check the frame’s internal size if the print will be framed.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a mount board calculation?
No. Here the white area is part of the printed paper. A mount board is a separate piece with an opening; its calculation uses different dimensions.
Does the calculation add resolution?
No. It adds paper dimensions around the image. It does not create any pixels or guarantee print sharpness.
