Compare the same quantity
Choose a common unit: litre, kilogram, square metre, metre or item. Convert both quantities to that unit before entering them. For example, 500 mL equals 0.5 L; comparing 500 directly with 1 would give a misleading result.
Keep the same currency
Both prices must already be expressed in the selected currency. The selector changes their label, not their value. Include any fees you want to compare consistently in both amounts. No exchange rate is looked up.
Distinguish price from usefulness
A larger pack can cost less per unit but more in total. An unused product does not become useful because its unit price is low. Also compare coverage, specifications and the quantity needed; this tool does not assess them.
Unit price = total price ÷ quantity. Relative difference = (higher unit price − lower unit price) ÷ higher unit price × 100, provided the higher price is positive.
Two pack sizes compared
A 2.5 L container priced at CHF 24.90 costs CHF 9.96/L. A 5 L container priced at CHF 39 costs CHF 7.80/L. The second costs CHF 2.16 less per litre, but requires spending CHF 39 and using a larger quantity.
Details to check
- Check that both quantities use the same unit.
- Compare equivalent specifications and fees.
- Then return to the quantity your project needs.
Frequently asked questions
Can a zero price be entered?
Yes. A zero-price offer gives a zero unit price if its quantity is positive. If both prices are zero, the tool does not calculate a percentage difference because its reference would be zero.
Does changing currency convert the price?
No. CHF, EUR, GBP and USD are labels only. Enter two amounts already expressed in the same currency.
